Prescription Lenses

Prescription lens

Prescription lenses help correct the refractive error in your eyes and provide you a clear vision. There are two main types of prescription lenses. Single vision lenses and Progressive lenses. The selection of the lens will depend on the type of refractive error you have.

Refractive Errors

Refractive errors occur when your eyes develop structural changes, which can cause light to enter your eyes unevenly, leading to impaired vision. There are four general types of refractive errors that are usually detected through a comprehensive eye exam. At Yateem Opticians, our licensed Optometrists are experts at determining your problem and getting you the perfect prescription.

Myopia or Nearsightedness

Myopia is found in eyes, where the eyeball is too long or have an overly curved cornea, which causes light to accumulate in front of the retina rather than on top of it. With myopia, nearby objects are clear, while distant ones are blurry or distorted.

Hyperopia or Farsightedness

An unusually short eyeball or rigid cornea may result in this refractive error, which result in light being directed to the back portion of the retina instead of on top of it. You will have difficulties seeing objects up-close and accomplishing near-range activities, while your far-range vision remains intact.

Astigmatism is a condition where the images formed by the eye are distorted because of variation in power in one axis of the cornea. The vision will be blurry and distorted for both near and far. However, the effect is not easily noticed as the person has become accustomed to the distorted image.

As you age, your eyes’ natural lenses may start to lose their flexibility, causing presbyopia. The characteristic symptom of presbyopia is impaired focusing abilities, particularly when looking at nearby objects or engaging in close-range activities.

Choosing Your Lens

Selecting the right lens is a decision that determines your vision for the time you use your glasses. Hence it is advisable to make this decision along with your Optometrist, clearly outlining your regular visual demands, needs and expectations. By varying the index of the lens, the material and design, your optometrist will be able to tailor the best possible lens for your needs.
